Mission: The Youth Orchestra of the Lowcountry provides leadership and inspiration for talented young musicians through the study and performance of the great works of classical music and through interaction with professional and university-level musicians.
Vision: Through orchestral and ensemble training, young musicians will become deeply committed to developing their musical skills and appreciating the high art of music.
Guiding Principles:
- Influencing the Future: We believe that the practice and performance standards of professional and university-level musicians can positively influence young musicians, and that interaction with such individuals can create pathways to higher education and professional careers in music.
- Increasing Awareness: We believe that all of our activities must focus on increased awareness and appreciation of classical music.
- Fostering Access: We believe that our selection process and programs must be implemented in a way that reduces real or perceived limits including geographic barriers and socio-economic status.
